Review: Bad Milo (2013)

Review by Disgruntled Monkey

Director: Jacob Vaughan
Starring: Ken Marino, Gillian Jacobs and Patrick Warburton
Writers: Benjamin Hayes and Jacob Vaughan

This is a horror comedy about a man who has a demon in his intestines and every time he gets stressed, it comes out of his butt to kill those that are stressing him. Pretty much you should be able to decide from this summation if this is a movie for you. But for those of you that have staid, you're probably wondering if it's any good?

Well, yes. Bad Milo is a very good horror comedy that offers enough gore and laughs to be able to pass away an afternoon without too much trouble. The biggest problem it has is that it's a little too smart for it's own good. Now follow me on this, but yes a movie about a Butt Demon can be too smart for it's good.

You see under the funny idea of a demonic turd, is an actual movie that touches upon the idea of fatherhood and how a father can effect their children. It kind of took me a while to adjust and it definitely dulls some of the humor. It's still a funny movie but it's wasn't as funny as I thought it would; or more importantly could be.

Also the movie is no drama, and while there is a serious attempt to have some meaning at the core, it never get's that serious and I wonder why humor was then sacrificed for this. Still it shows that the director and writer had a solid idea when they came up with a movie about a rectal ravager. This is a pretty impressive feat if you think about it, and one that at least makes me interested in any other projects the director might be attached to.

0.5 demons out of 1
It's funny but I can't help but feel some humor was sacrificed.
Script
1 demon out of 1
The script is pretty smart. At least for a movie about a butt demon.
Acting
0.5 demons out of 1
All actors have great comedic sensibilities but no one really stands out.
Directing
0.5 demons out of 1
Nice but nothing that warrants a standing ovation.
Technical
0.5 demons out of 1
The FX are a little weak, but the cuteness of Milo the butt demon get's a half a point.

Overall
3 demons out of 5
Above average horror comedy that just seems to hold something back.
